A Personal Life Plan: Your Permanent Stress Reliever
Whatever
the reason, as we proceed down life’s path, one truth begins to emerge
very clearly: “If I don’t control my destiny, someone else will –
my parents, my spouse, my boss, my friends, or just
circumstances…everyone and everything but me!” Rather than have someone
else thrust destiny upon you, why not take control of your own
life? Each of us was created as a unique individual with the free
will and reasoning to decide how to spend each of our years on
earth. This is one of the core themes of this book.
The
key to taking control of your life, making things happen, and finding
your inner strength is simply this: having a personal life
plan. Those who take the time to examine their lives, understand
their inner purpose, and chart a life plan become relatively happier,
healthier, and wealthier.
In structure, think
of your life plan as a pyramid. The foundation is comprised of
your unique values, your fundamental belief system, or principles. |
Built
upon your values is an articulation of your mission, your “raison
d’etre,” your reason for being. Your mission is the basis for your
vision, which resides on the next level. Your vision is a clear picture
of where you’d like to be or what you’d like to be doing in your ideal
future state. The next step is to turn that vision into specific goals.
Finally, as you complete your life plan, you’ll develop action plans,
which involve developing timetables for you to achieve your goals.
